Planning a wedding with a few hundred guests can be hectic. Whether it’s because you and your fiance have big families to accommodate or you have a lot of friends you would like there for your special day, figuring out how to handle everyone can be a bit stressful. Instead of stressing, keep calm, and follow these tips for planning for a large guest list.
Make Sure Everyone Will Fit in the Venue.
This may sound like a given, but make sure that your guests will comfortably fit in the venue. That means going to see it beforehand to really envision the floor plan, rather than just relying on online photos to paint a picture.
Pick Your Guestlist Wisely
The more guests you have, the more expensive your wedding will be, so use two rules to narrow down your guest list.
- The Five-Year Rule: If you haven’t seen the person in the last five years, you don’t need to invite them to your wedding.
- The Five-Minute Rule: If you can’t picture yourself having at least a five-minute conversation with the person, they shouldn’t be at your wedding.
Account for Traveling
If your ceremony and reception are in different locations and you have a lot of out-of-town guests, remember that there will be a lot of people who will be trying to navigate unfamiliar territory. Try to have the locations relatively close to each other to avoid any issues.
Try to See Everyone
Your guests are there to see you and your new honey, so spend time with them as best as you can. Obviously having full conversations with all 200+ guests is impossible, but try to stop by everyone’s table at least once to show them that you’re happy to have them celebrating with you.
