While Valentine’s Day can be a time for some of us to revel in the love we have for a significant other, for others, it’s a day to celebrate being single. This has lead to the start of a new February tradition — Galetine’s Day.

If you’re looking to throw a party to celebrate you and your girls, here’s what you’re going to need.

Good Invitations

Like any other event, your invitations will set the tone for your party. You can decide to go with something funny like “Cupid is Stupid” or “Only Swipe Left” or you can make the invites more friend-centric and simply label them “Gals Night In.”

Proper Decorations

If you want to decorate the way you normally would for a Valentine’s Day party, go ahead! Fill the room with hearts and confetti and all things pink and red. However, if you’re aiming for a more “single and proud” vibe, you can create decorations with funny sayings and anti-relationship sentiments.

Upbeat Music

This is not the day to make a playlist full of Adele and John Legend songs. Make a playlist packed with songs like Fifth Harmony’s “That’s My Girl,” Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” and Martina McBride’s “This One’s for the Girl’s.” If someone in attendance has been scorned by a past love, you may also want to include songs like TLC’s “No Scrubs” and Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield.”

Fun Activities

While it’s great to dance around the room sipping on wine and margaritas, plan a few fun activities to really kick your Galentine’s party up a notch. You can do a few arts & crafts, smash a heart-shaped piñata, or go outside and burn your ex’s photos in a bonfire — whatever you think everyone will have the most fun doing!
